Arsenal could be in need of a new striker this summer and Sanchez Watt has suggested the ideal player he wants to see at The Emirates. The ex-Arsenal star is desperate for his old club to go after Inter Milan hero Romelu Lukaku, in what would be a hugely ambitious move.
Lukaku, 28, finished a brilliant season with 30 goals in all competitions – as well as 10 assists in 44 games. He helped Antonio Conte and Inter stop Juventus’ consecutive run of nine Serie A titles, as Inter blew the rest of their Italian rivals away. He looks settled at Inter, though clubs are linked.
Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked – but Lukaku is just one on a long list. Harry Kane and Erling Haaland have both been linked, as have Lukaku. But Watt wants Lukaku to join a different Premier League side this summer.
Arsenal have Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as traditional centre-forwards, but both could leave this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli are more effective from the left flank. Watt, then, wants Arsenal to sign Lukaku.
Arsenal surely have no chance of Watt’s suggestion Lukaku, do they?
Not without European football. Of course, Arsenal are a big club but Inter Milan are just as big – if not bigger. They have just won the league title and will be gracing Europe back in the Champions League next term – albeit without Antonio Conte. Even if Lukaku did want to join, it would be tough.
Arsenal’s spending power is not as it once was. It was a real struggle just to get a £45million move for Thomas Partey over the line last summer, so a move for Lukaku would be massively tricky. According to the Sunday World, Lukaku will cost £80million – a club-record fee for Arsenal.
