Samuel Eto’o has been quoted by BBC Sport as saying that his former club Barcelona should look to sign Liverpool star Mo Salah, because the Egyptian would be better suited at the Nou Camp.
The 27-year-old attacker has shone in his two seasons at Liverpool, finding the back of the net 71 times in 104 outings for the Reds – and even clocking up 29 assists alongside that astronomical goalscoring rate.
Liverpool will be desperate not to see Salah leave the club this summer, but there has been murmurs that both Barcelona and Real Madrid could make a move for the ex-Chelsea and Basel attacker.
Eto’o, who played for Barcelona for five years as well as Liverpool’s bitter rivals Everton, believes Liverpool’s £34million (BBC) signing would be better suited to Ernesto Valverde’s side.
“Barcelona would be a better fit,” Eto’o said. “Real gave me the opportunity to leave Africa but I know Barcelona’s style and I think it would be better for him.”
“If he has the chance to play in the best league of the world, which is the Spanish one, he has to sign for Barcelona. Mo has everything to be one of the best players in the world.”
TBR’s view – can Liverpool fend off Barcelona?
Liverpool cannot lose Salah. If the Reds are to continue in their bid to rival Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, and retain the Champions League trophy, they need Salah.
He has been absolutely crucial for Liverpool over the last two years. Pundits have even suggested that Salah’s form last season had dipped, but he had a hand in 40 goals last season in 52 games.
The 64-cap star has four years remaining on his contract, and Liverpool will be hoping Salah honours that.
