Leeds United take on Bristol City in their Championship opener this afternoon. The Whites will be looking to put a mixed summer in the transfer window behind them by getting off to a fine start in league action.

Whilst Leeds have seemingly brought in many of their main transfer targets this summer, they have also lost some key players.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell joined Burnley this week whilst Kemar Roofe looks set to join Anderlecht in the coming days. Pontus Jansson headed to Brentford whilst Jack Clarke signed for Tottenham Hotspur, although has returned on loan for the season.

One player Leeds reportedly missed out on will be hoping to get his full Bristol City debut against the Whites tomorrow.

Sammie Szmodics headed to Ashton Gate from Colchester United this summer. As reported by the Bristol Post, Leeds made a late move for the talented midfielder. In the end, the approach was far too late and Bristol City managed to conclude a £750,000 deal for the 23-year-old.

Szmodics has gone on to have an impressive pre-season with the club and Bristol boss Lee Johnson will undoubtedly have to be considering handing him a start this afternoon.

Leeds fans will hope that the attacking midfielder does not highlight just why the West Yorkshire side were keen in the first place.
