Liverpool suffered a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday evening in a bitter blow to their chances of reeling Pep Guardiola’s side in in the race for the Premier League title – and Sami Hyypia responded on Instagram.

The Reds came into the match having gone seven points behind City following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Brighton at Anfield – Steven Alzate scoring for the Seagulls. Many pundits suggested they needed to win on Sunday.

But an Alisson horror show handed City all three points. That is, even after Ilkay Gundogan missed a penalty and then Mo Salah scored a penalty of his own – after Gundogan had made amends to put City ahead.

Alisson then gave the ball away twice in the space of 10 seconds – which Phil Foden took advantage of, squaring for Gundogan to get a second. Bernardo Silva set up Raheem Sterling for a third, after Alisson gave the ball away again.

The moment of the match came in the form of City’s fourth, as man-of-the-match Foden cut inside from the left before lashing an effort into the top corner to put the gloss on his near-perfect performance.

It was an embarrassing loss for Liverpool that sees them slip 10 points behind City. Ex-Liverpool skipper Hyypia reacted on Instagram, posting a nine-word verdict – urging Jurgen Klopp to turn things around.

He said: “We need to turn this form around very quickly.”
