Sami Hyppia delivers seven-word Instagram verdict on last-gasp Liverpool win
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker stole the headlines yesterday as he scored a 94th-minute winner to keep the club’s hopes of a top-four finish alive. Afterwards, Sami Hyppia provided an assessment of the outcome.
The Brazilian stopper went up for a corner with the seconds running down on the clock. A delicious cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold was met by the goalkeeper and after adjusting himself, he powered an unstoppable effort beyond Sam Johnstone.
It was a remarkable moment for a man who has been through so much both on and off the pitch during the last six weeks. The emotion was evident as his teammates mobbed him at The Hawthorns.
Hyppia is a man who knows all about having the love of both his peers and supporters. He made 464 appearances for the Reds and after the game, he took to Instagram to sum up what he had witnessed in just one word.
Hyypia also went crazy on his Instagram story, claiming at the end of the game: “The end of the game was unreal.”
Liverpool now have their top-four fate in their own hands thanks to Alisson’s late moment of magic. Leicester play Chelsea tomorrow night and that is now a massive game for both teams.
Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to Burnley on Wednesday and finish their campaign with a home game with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Maximum points from those two fixtures will see them secure a place in next season’s Champions League – a feat which seemed unthinkable just a few weeks ago.
Alisson will cherish and remember this moment for a considerable amount of time and if Liverpool do make the top four, they’ll be indebted to their fantastic custodian.
A big week lies in store for the Reds who must focus all their efforts on securing six massive points to finish the campaign.
