Report: Leeds United scout Aberdeen talisman Sam Cosgrove

The 23-year-old has been a man in prolific form this season.

Aberdeen talisman Sam Cosgrove was scouted by Leeds United during Saturday’s defeat to Celtic, according to The Scottish Sun.

The Whites could look to bolster their attacking ranks in January. They appear to have joined Derby County and Middlesbrough in the race to land the Dons frontman.

Representatives of all three clubs were at Celtic Park on Saturday, running the rule over the man with 20 goals for the season.

It was a bittersweet game for Cosgrove. He scored an equaliser for Aberdeen in the 36th minute but was then dismissed in the 69th for a challenge on Kristoffer Ajer.

Cosgrove is likely to be sold should the right offer come along and Leeds may well pounce.

The target man could provide the Whites with a different option to anything they currently have.

Patrick Bamford is likely to be the only striker at Elland Road when January comes around. Eddie Nketiah, on loan from Arsenal, could return to the Gunners after struggling for game time at Leeds.

Cosgrove signed for the Dons in 2018 from Carlisle United. During his time at Pittodrie, he has netted 41 goals in 76 appearances and it comes as no surprise that he is a wanted man.

Born in Beverley, Cosgrove would surely love the chance to return with Leeds and he is more than capable of firing the Whites over the finish line.

In Scotland, he has proved a lethal finisher, strong in the air and a real handful for defenders.

Given his age, there is still potential to be unearthed and Leeds could land a desperately shrewd signing if Cosgrove is added to Marcelo Bielsa’s ranks.
