Sam Allardyce has shared his problem with James Maddison as he admitted that he would not include the Tottenham Hotspur star in his final Euro 2024 squad this summer.
James Maddison had an encouraging first season at Tottenham following his £40 million move from Leicester City last summer.
In fact, some felt that Maddison was the best player in the Premier League during the opening weeks of the campaign as Tottenham led the way under Ange Postecoglou.
Unfortunately, Maddison spent a couple of months on the sidelines due to injury around the turn of the year. And it seems fair to say that he was not quite the same player following his return, with just one league goal scored after he came back.

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old was included in the provisional England squad for Euro 2024. However, speaking on No Tippy Tappy Football, Sam Allardyce suggested that he would not include the attacking midfielder in his final squad for the tournament this summer.

“Maddison’s a no. Much better players already in the squad, and there’s a fitness problem with him. Gets injured far too much, last season, this season. You want players who are going to stay fit, I think that’s one of the reasons you look at,” he said.
Tottenham player backed for disappointment this summer
Maddison is yet to take his impressive performances in the Premier League onto the international stage. He has only represented his country on six occasions.
He did not feature at all at the World Cup in Qatar, and Allardyce is not alone in believing that he is in danger of not going to Germany this summer, with Gabby Agbonlahor also predicting that Maddison will miss out.
England are blessed with such depth in the final third, and Maddison’s underwhelming second-half of the season will surely be taken into account and do him no favours when Gareth Southgate narrows his list down.
