Sam Allardyce says £22m player is actually Tottenham’s ‘main man’

It’s hard to decide who Tottenham’s most important player is these days.

James Maddison was the main catalyst for Spurs’ great run at the beginning of the Ange Postecoglou era, Micky van de Ven’s pace is so important to how this defence operates, while Destiny Udogie’s ability down the left is also key.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been reviewing this Tottenham squad.

The manager says that while a lot of people speak about James Maddison and how important he is to this Spurs side, he believes that Heung-Min Son is still Tottenham’s main man and most important player.

Heung-Min Son is Tottenham’s most important player

Allardyce shared his verdict on the £22m man.

“We look at this Tottenham side and you know everyone talks about Maddison an awful lot, but Son is the main man, he has been for years. I mean he can make them tick,” Allardyce said.

“Defensively they look more solid with the two central defenders and the left-back.”

Heung-Min Son is vital

Allardyce says that Son is still Tottenham’s main man, and he’s not wrong.

The South Korean has started this season brilliantly, bagging two goals in three games, and he’s Spurs’ only consistent goal threat in recent times.

Dominic Solanke was fantastic last season, but he’s yet to score in a Spurs shirt, while Richarlison’s form blows hot and cold.

Son is the only Tottenham attacker that can be consistently relied upon to come up with the goods and score on a weekly basis.

Of course, the likes of Maddison, Udogie and Van de Ven are all vitally important to Ange Postecoglou’s system too, but as the club captain and most potent attacker, it’s fair to say that Son remains Tottenham’s most important player.
