Former Newcastle boss, Sam Allardyce, has admitted that he fears for Steve Bruce once the new owners are in place at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are set to be taken over by a Saudi Arabian led consortium in the coming weeks. That has led, naturally, to plenty of transfer talk and speculation over the future of Bruce.

And speaking to Talksport, former boss Allardyce conceded that Bruce could indeed be moved out of the door.

“If the papers are right then it looks likely that the new owners will make a change. And let’s face it they are entitled to get their own man if they want to spend the sort of money which is being reported,” Allarcyde said.

The likes of Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino have been linked with a job in the last few weeks.

However, Allardyce believes Bruce is more than capable, giving his backing to the former Sunderland and Birmingham boss.

“There are suggestions Steve couldn’t handle that sort of thing, but of course he could. He’d be absolutely delighted to go out into the world of football and buy the sort of players the Newcastle fans would want to see.”

In a strange turn of events, it looks like Bruce won’t get to build on what has been a largely successful season.

Despite some poor performances, Bruce has in fact guided the club to safety. And he’s done it comfortably as well.

Many expected Newcastle to be relegation candidates under Bruce but he has ensured that’s not the case. However, it looks like the new owners will bring in someone new.

It’s sad for Bruce, really. He took a of flak for walking out on Sheffield Wednesday and now, seemingly, won’t get to finish the job he’s started in the northeast.
