Tottenham might have been handed a transfer boost when it comes to signing Salzburg forward Dominik Szoboszlai thanks to some comments from the Austrian club’s director.
Christoph Freund has been discussing the future of the club’s star man with German news outlet BILD.
The 20-year-old is one of European football’s most wanted young footballers and several clubs will be on red alert in January.
Last week 90Min claimed that Tottenham had been monitoring the youngster who was firmly on the club’s radar.
It had been thought by some outlets that Spurs were leading the race for his signature ahead of the transfer window reopening.
Freund has now offered even more hope that Szoboszlai could be on the move in January, discussing the player during a recent interview.
He told BILD: “Of course you would like to have the player in the club as long as possible.
“On the other hand, it is also healthy if he takes the next step at the right time.
“Let’s see what happens in winter, but there is a high probability that he will move to a big club.
“That is definitely the next step in development so that he can tap this potential and this performance with every game.
“I’m convinced that he can become one of the most interesting midfielders in Europe in the next few years.”
TBR View – Tottenham should go all-in for Szoboszlai
The summer transfer window was an extremely good one for Tottenham and signing the Hungarian would further complement their squad.
Earlier this month the youngster scored a stunning goal to send his country to the European Championships next summer – increasing his stock further.
The left-sided winger has scored five goals and registered nine assists this season and is clearly set for a top European club.
Tottenham have title aspirations this season and signing the player with a £20 million release clause seems like a complete no-brainer.
He would see Spurs set for the foreseeable and could become one of the Premier League’s top performers pretty quickly.
