Salomon Rondon’s absence v Brighton may not be the worst outcome for Newcastle

Newcastle United centre-forward Salomon Rondon will be sidelined at the weekend against Brighton and strangely that could work in their favour.

Rafael Benitez has confirmed that the 29-year-old has taken part in training, but will be unavailable on Saturday for the Premier League clash at home to Brighton.

Rafael Benitez’s side are in desperate need of their first win of the season and are lining up against a Brighton side that are defensively resilient, while they will travel to St James’ Park confident of earning a result.

The Seagulls are extremely hard to breakthrough, as they have the commanding centre-back pairing of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.

Powerhouse Rondon would only play into their hands considering his physical style of play, which is why Newcastle could benefit from a different option at the weekend.

Yoshinori Muto earned his first league start of the season before the international break in the loss to Manchester United, but did score in that match and was impressive throughout.

The 26-year-old is a Japan international with great energy and speed, something that should ask a lot more questions of the Brighton defenders.

Rondon’s time in a Newcastle shirt could still come this season once he recovers from injury, but Muto could the perfect man in attack to kickstart the season.
