Last summer, Newcastle United signed Salomon Rondon on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion, with Dwight Gayle heading in the other direction.
It was a long and drawn out transfer saga but Newcastle finally got their man. And Rondon has been in top form for the Magpies this season.
The physical centre-forward’s hold-up play is exceptional and he has weighed in with six goals and three assists in 18 Premier League starts.
Rondon is key to Newcastle’s style of play, acting as the central point to any attack by using his strength and aerial presence.
But according to The Chronicle, other clubs could make a move for Rondon in the summer when he returns to West Brom.
Newcastle are still in pole position to land the Venezuela international on a permanent deal and they have a trump card.

The Baggies want to keep Gayle, who could be used as a makeweight in any permanent transfer.
But this must be Newcastle’s priority for the summer, provided they manage to stay in the Premier League.
Rondon is already endearing himself to the fans with consistent and passionate displays and most supporters want him to stay.
Moving forward, this is a deal that Mike Ashley has to fund to keep Benitez and the Newcastle fans happy.
Interest from other clubs should prompt Newcastle into action sooner rather than later.
