Saliba and Guendouzi named in Ligue 1 Fans' Team of the Week
Arsenal pair William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi have perhaps sent a further message to Mikel Arteta, with the pair both being included in the Ligue 1 Fans’ Team of the Week after Marseille beat Rennes on Sunday.
Jorge Sampaoli’s side are amongst the pace-setters in the French top flight. They have taken 13 points from their opening five games.
Marseille sit second in the table, five points off Paris Saint-Germain. And they have a game in hand.
It comes after a 2-0 win over Rennes at Stade Velodrome at the weekend.
The Arsenal duo managed what Spurs could not do earlier that week and that is keep a clean sheet against Bruno Genesio’s men.
Gunners fans were well aware of how well Saliba performed in the victory. Many were on social media lauding the 20-year-old after his statistics from the game came to light.
And he has now received further recognition. Both Saliba and Guendouzi have made the Ligue 1 Fans’ Team of the Week…

Saliba and Guendouzi two Arsenal players likely to be keeping keen eye on Arteta’s future at Emirates
As things stand, it is hard to see Guendouzi playing for the Gunners again. He has not played since angering Arteta in their defeat to Brighton in 2020.
Instead, he has been loaned out twice. And Marseille have the option to make his deal permanent at the end of the campaign.
The situation surrounding Saliba meanwhile, has baffled many Arsenal fans. It is remarkable to most that he has not even made his Gunners debut.
Of the pair, Saliba looks most likely to return to Arsenal next summer.
But obviously, much may depend on what the future holds for Arteta. If he stays, Saliba will surely want assurances about the plans for him. Guendouzi meanwhile, will surely go.
But if Arteta leaves before next summer, all bets are off.
