Bukayo Saka opened up about his pre-match routine and the Arsenal star has revealed how YouTube videos acted as an inspiration before youth team games back in the day.
The youngster has gone from strength to strength over the last two years. He burst onto the scene under Unai Emery before cementing his place as one of Arsenal’s best players under Mikel Arteta.
What Saka has done over the last year or so has truly been inspirational. Kids at the Arsenal academy really do look up to him, but who did the 20-year-old look up to when he was really young?
Saka has revealed that before every youth team game, he would watch YouTube videos of Lionel Messi, Neymar and a player Manchester United bought a few months ago.
Bukayo Saka: I used to watch videos of Ronaldo before every youth team game
The Arsenal star was quizzed by a few kids from the academy in a video released by BT Sport. He was asked about his pre-match routine and here’s what he said.
“(Now) I get a massage before the game, try to relax, I listen to a lot of music, Saka said.
“When I was your age, I used to watch a lot of YouTube before the game. I used to watch all my favourite players – Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo – it just used to make me feel happy.
“I used to go on the pitch and wanted to have fun, I think that calms the nerves as well and it makes you remember to always enjoy football and not take it obviously too seriously.”

TBR View:
Saka is a phenomenal talent and he has the potential to become one of the best players in the Premier League in a few years’ time. Looking up to players like Messi, Neymar and especially Ronaldo is a great thing.
The Portuguese superstar has done it all in his career. He started as a young tricky winger, first at Sporting and then at Manchester United, and has gone on to achieve truly great things over the last 15 years.
At 36 years of age, Ronaldo still looks as good as ever. He has scored six goals in nine appearances so far in what is a very average Manchester United side. That just shows the world how good a player he is.
Saka has admitted that he used to watch a lot of Ronaldo before youth team games. He may not do it anymore, but he would’ve surely learnt a lot from the Manchester United man, who has won almost everything in his career.
