Saiss looks set to end Atletico Madrid speculation by penning extended Wolves deal

Moroccan international Romain Saiss is set to commit his future to Wolves by signing an extended contract at Molineux, according to the Telegraph.

They report that after Matt Doherty and Conor Coady penned new deals last week, Saiss is to be the next to sign on the dotted line when the Old Gold squad return to training.

Saiss can play as both a central defender and a central midfielder but has not enjoyed quite as much gametime this season as he did during last season’s promotion campaign; primarily due to the arrival of Joao Moutinho.

But his quality is underlined by the fact that according to Moroccan outlet Lions de l’Atlas last week, Saiss was a target for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

That Saiss was reportedly coveted by a side who have been regulars in the latter stages of the Champions League in many recent seasons – and won the Europa League last term – shows the calibre of players Wolves now have.

But penning a new deal would likely kill Atletico’s hopes of landing Saiss as at 28, the contract would likely be his last big one.

Saiss having a slightly more marginal role this season may have raised some concerns around the club that Atletico would turn his head but the fact that he has wasted no time getting in line for a new deal underlines his commitment to what Nuno Santo is trying to build in the Midlands.
