Saint-Maximin relishing upcoming Cristiano Ronaldo clash
Most Newcastle United fans won’t be looking forward to travelling to Old Trafford this weekend.
The Magpies have managed to pick up just one point from their opening three games and now they face the daunting task of trying to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at bay.
The Portuguese mega-star is set to make his second debut for Manchester United on Saturday.
It won’t be easy for Steve Bruce’s side – Ronaldo has a knack for finding the net against Newcastle with six goals and five assists in 11 games against the club (Transfermarkt).
However, one man at Newcastle who cannot wait for the clash is the Geordies’ enigmatic winger, Allan Saint-Maximin.
The Frenchman has already got a goal and an assist under his belt this season and now he cannot wait to face off against Ronaldo.
Speaking to Newcastle United TV, the 24-year-old said:
“I scored last season against Manchester United at Old Trafford but we didn’t win the game.
“I always say I don’t care about scoring it’s more important for me that my team wins.
“I will try to do my best. I’m sure the world will watch this game because of Ronaldo. But I know my quality, I know what I can do on the pitch. I know it will be a really hard game.
“I know what I can do, I think everyone will see what I can do on the pitch.”
Certainly these are strong words from Saint-Maximin, who is already a beloved figure in the Northeast.
It doesn’t help the Frenchman’s cause that Callum Wilson will miss this game injured, though.
The hopes of the travelling fans will be pinned on the skillful 24-year-old and, should Newcastle somehow come away with a result, you can bet it will be down to the brilliance of the Frenchman.
