It’s been a great start to the week for Everton fans, with the Toffees announcing the signing of James Rodriguez on Monday.

The Colombia international has joined Everton on a two-year contract, with the Goodison Park side having an option on a third year for the playmaker.

Rodriguez, who reportedly cost Everton £20million, has become Carlo Ancelotti’s second senior signing of the summer, following the arrival of Napoli midfielder Allan.

The 29-year-old is linking up with Ancelotti for the third time in his career, the Toffees boss having signed the playmaker for both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in previous years.

Rodriguez burst onto the scene after impressing with Colombia at the 2014 World Cup and winning the Golden Boot, prompting Real to sign him from Monaco for a reported £63million.

He began brightly for Los Blancos, with 13 goals and 13 assists in La Liga in his first season, but he wasn’t able to hit those same heights going forward amid injuries and loss of form.

Although Rodriguez won plaudits while at the Bernabeu, with the likes of Roberto Carlos deeming him a “phenomenon” and “great player” (Blu Radio), he was seldom utilised by Zinedine Zidane.

Rodriguez was in the final year of his Real contract and started only five league games under Zidane last season, closing his account with 37 goals from 125 appearances.

Despite his mixed spell at Real, Rodriguez leaves with well-wishes from quite a few of their fans:
