'Sad': Gary Lineker shares thoughts on what Daniel Levy told 61-cap Spurs man, amid reports

Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on the supposed gentleman’s agreement between Harry Kane and Daniel Levy.

What’s the story?

As documented by the Evening Standard, Kane believed his gentleman’s agreement with Levy would help him move away from Spurs.

However, if there was such an arrangement with the 61-cap England international, the Tottenham Chairman failed to live up to his word.

As Pep Guardiola stated, Levy simply wouldn’t negotiate with Manchester City, and Kane announced he’d be staying in N17 a few days ago.

The Sun even claimed that Levy is thinking of offering Kane an extra £100,000-a-week in a bid to keep him until 2027.

As seen on his Twitter account, Lineker expressed his disappointment at Levy’s U-turn, if this gentleman’s agreement was real, that is.

In a conversation with ex-Spurs player Graham Roberts and Henry Winter of The Times, Lineker shared some honest thoughts.

Evidently, if Levy really has suckered Kane into staying, the BBC Match of the Day host isn’t too impressed.

In our view, a verbal agreement simply isn’t strong enough in this day and age.

Especially when we’re talking about a player widely considered to be Europe’s best striker, a concrete release clause has to be involved.

If Kane really wanted to leave, he absolutely needed to get it written into his contract, or he can have no complaints about not getting his way.

Unless he gets that done soon, he should probably prepare to stay at Tottenham until his contract ends, knowing how tough Levy is.
