Ryan Mullen has confirmed on Twitter that he has agreed a new contract with Celtic to keep him at the club until the summer of 2023, coinciding with the same day as his 19th birthday – and plenty of Celtic supporters have reacted to his post.
Mullen, now 19, was previously out of contract at the end of the season but doubts over the goalkeeper’s future have been put to rest – as he has agreed a deal that will see him remain at the club for the next three years.
A regular for Celtic’s reserves, Mullen is yet to make his professional senior debut for Celtic or on loan. He has been a regular for the club’s reserve sides, though, and has clocked up nine caps for Scotland’s Under-19 side.
Posting on Twitter, Mullen underling his delight at putting pen to paper on a deal that sees him remain at Celtic for the foreseeable future – on the same day Celtic were announced as champions, all on his 19th birthday.
Mullen has plenty of competition ahead of him but that could be about to be reduced. Craig Gordon’s contract expires this summer, while Fraser Forster is only on loan. But Conor Hazard is due to return to the club from Dundee, after a loan.
Enormous competition for Celtic’s number 43, Mullen, if he harbours any hope of breaking into Neil Lennon’s side. Many Celtic supporters reacted to his Tweet, applauding the young goalkeeper after he agreed a new deal.
