Ryan Babel has admitted during an Instagram Q&A session on SportBible’s account that he would consider a move to Rangers in the coming months – purely because former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard is manager.
Babel, 33, has become somewhat of a journeyman since joining Liverpool from Ajax in the summer of 2007. The 63-time Netherlands international has gone on to play in countries such as Turkey, Spain and even the United Arab Emirates.
Currently, Babel is on loan at his boyhood club Ajax – after joining Galatasaray last summer from Fulham following the Cottagers’ relegation. He has netted just one goal since returning to his first club on loan, in nine outings.
At Galatasaray, Babel has a contract until the summer of 2022. But given that he has alreafy left the SuperLig side on loan, his future looks in doubt and asked about a move to Rangers, the ex-Liverpool man stated he would be open to a move to Ibrox.
“I think I would play for Rangers just for the fact that Steven Gerrard is the coach,” Babel said.

TBR’s view – Would Babel improve Rangers?
There are questions marks over whether Babel’s attitude is right, but in terms of what he offers on the pitch, Babel is a top, top player that would massively improve the Gers – and help those around him.
With Ianis Hagi’s future in doubt and a very Liverpool-feel becoming apparent at Rangers given the manager, coaching staff, Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo and Jon Flanagan, Babel could be the next weapon in Rangers stopping Celtic.
