Ruud Gullit has told BeIN Sports that he believes Carlo Ancelotti would prefer a move to Arsenal to replace Unai Emery, instead of joining Everton following Marco Silva’s sacking.
The Italian was sacked by Napoli on Tuesday night just moments after beating Genk 4-0 to push the Serie A side into the last 16 of the Champions League. It leaves the former Chelsea boss on the lookout for a new club.
Sky Sports claim Everton are to open talks with Ancelotti to bring one of the world’s most experienced managers to Merseyside, but Arsenal are also likely to be interested – with Freddie Ljungberg winning just one of his three matches as interim boss.
Dutch legend Gullit – who knows Ancelotti well after playing together at AC Milan between 1987 and 1992 – claimed that he reckons the ex-Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star would prefer a move to The Emirates, over Everton.
“Everton do not play in the Champions League, not even close at the moment,” Gullit said. “[Marcel] Brands has already spent a lot of money there. If I’m Arsenal, I would grab his hand off. For sure. That’s an opportunity for Arsenal to get somebody who has the credentials and the cups, and a lot of players would want to play for him.”

TBR’s view – Ancelotti needs a team in European competition
It is where Ancelotti thrives. His CV reads some of Europe’s biggest sides, including Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Madrid, Bayern, Chelsea and AC Milan – as well as Napoli. Given the size of Arsenal, The Gunners would not look out of place.
Arsenal remain in the Europa League, while Everton are a long way away from European competition. The Toffees would look like an anomaly on his glittering CV. Gullit is right, Arsenal is much more likely than Everton.
