Chris Sutton has waxed lyrical about the incredible work-rate of Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and believes it’s why he so often doesn’t complete the full 90 minutes due to the energy he exerts.
Despite struggling for minutes last season, the 23-year-old has performed a U-turn to completely win over his manager Jose Mourinho and become a regular starter in the XI.
The Frenchman cost a club-record £63million (Sky Sports) from Lyon during the 2019 summer transfer window and during his second season in English football he’s now beginning to show his true qualities.
He has been used as part of a midfield trio alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Moussa Sissoko, which is a combination that has worked so effectively.
Ndombele is such an eye-catching individual with flair on the ball and the ability to receive the ball in tight areas, but it’s clear his work-rate out of possession has improved to help him be a mainstay under Mourinho.
Sutton has given a glowing verdict on the efforts of the central midfielder:
“In Tanguy Ndombele, Mourinho has a player who runs his socks off. Ndombele hasn’t completed 90 minutes in nine starts this season, possibly because he is so knackered after an hour of hounding the opposition!” Sutton told the Daily Mail.

TBR’s View:
Current Premier League leaders Spurs are currently preparing to face second-placed Liverpool on Wednesday night and it’s a chance for either team to send out a real statement in what is still the very early stages of a title race.
Mourinho’s managed to get his imprint on the Spurs team to make them look quite the formidable force and his influence on Ndombele is a shining example of how he can get the best out of individuals.
It’s very much sink or swim when it comes to being a success under Mourinho, with Ndombele deciding to roll his sleeves up to add an extra element to his game and he’s managed to earn the manager’s trust.
