By all measures, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is doing everything he can to impress at Stamford Bridge. The English international has scored five goals in his last six matches, including a Europa League hat-trick and a crucial derby goal against Fulham.
Yet Loftus-Cheek has not started a single Premier League match for Chelsea all season, and the midfielder must force a Crystal Palace loan move if he suffers yet another selection snub against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
Recent reports in the Guardian claim Loftus-Cheek is determined to earn a first team spot at Stamford Bridge, but if he is constantly overlooked he will ask to be loaned out in January.
Crystal Palace are reported to be keen on bringing the 22-year-old back to SE25, where Loftus-Cheek enjoyed a successful 2017/18 campaign that led to his first England senior call-up.
A move back to Selhurst Park for the second half of the season would be an ideal switch for the Chelsea man, as consistent playing time is vital for Loftus-Cheek’s development and hopes of retaining his space in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Despite his excellent form in limited minutes for the Blues, Ruben Loftus-Cheek still finds himself bafflingly low on the Chelsea pecking order.
And if the young midfielder is again not in the starting XI against Wolves in midweek, Loftus-Cheek must push for a return to Crystal Palace on loan.
