Ruben Loftus-Cheek form a warning to Aston Villa

While Aston Villa’s form has been disappointing in more recent months, Dean Smith’s men look set to go into the summer with plenty to be optimistic about.

The Villans have made huge strides of progress from last season. And they will be looking in the window to make the kind of signings that will allow them to take that next step.

Villa have been linked with a host of names. But, while some look to have the potential to be inspired additions, other reports have been a lot more underwhelming.

One of those reportedly on the club’s radar is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. TEAMtalk reported last month that Villa were rivalling Crystal Palace for the 25-year-old.

It was noted that Chelsea are open to selling Loftus-Cheek, who has spent the season out on loan with Fulham.

At the time, Villa supporters seemed to be incredibly divided on the links.

And his performances over the course of the campaign are only likely to strengthen the belief of those who are desperate for Villa to back out of the race.

Admittedly, Loftus-Cheek was potentially dealt a tough hand with Fulham enduring a difficult campaign.

However, there have been times when Scott Parker’s side have looked much better than a team that would go on to be relegated with three games to go. But Loftus-Cheek has not raised his levels on the occasions when his teammates have stepped up.

He has fallen to the periphery of the squad in more recent times. And given that Villa have had their own issues with a Chelsea-owned player this season in Ross Barkley, the Villans surely have to look elsewhere.

The reports would hint that the Blues want to sell him permanently rather than loan him out. So he will not come cheap.

The Telegraph meanwhile, claims he is on £150,000-a-week.

The alarm bells should be ringing for Aston Villa if they are indeed keen.
