West Ham United could contend for a top half finish if they completed the loan signing of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in January.
According to The Mirror, Manuel Pellegrini is ready to test the waters over the England international, who is on the fringes at Stamford Bridge.
Loftus-Cheek was linked with a number of clubs over the summer, but stayed put to fight for a regular starting berth under Maurizio Sarri.
It hasn’t really gone to plan so far, with the midfielder having started no games in the Premier League.
His finest moment came in the Europa League when he scored a hat-trick against BATE Borisov last month.
With all of Sarri’s other midfielders also playing well, speculation over Loftus-Cheek’s near future hasn’t let up.
West Ham must sign the midfielder
The report says that Sarri doesn’t want to let Loftus-Cheek leave on loan, but West Ham have to fight for the player.
He has demonstrated fantastic ball-carrying ability and an eye for goal in what little game time he has been afforded so far this season.
Last term he played well for Crystal Palace, and has also made his mark at international level.
The Irons could do with someone like him given their lack of depth in midfield, with Carlos Sanchez out indefinitely and Jack Wilshere’s injury record worrying.
He brings things that no one else currently does for West Ham, such as drive and aggression, as well as good technical ability.
Signing Loftus-Cheek could seriously help West Ham break into the top half this season, which would be a great first campaign for Pellgrini.
