Roy Keane thinks Manchester City reportedly want to sign a Cristiano Ronaldo-like player
Roy Keane has paid tribute to Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish following England’s 1-0 win over Austria on Wednesday evening. The playmaker was probably England’s best player on the night, and Keane has likened him to Cristiano Ronaldo – amid reports Manchester City are interested.
Grealish, 25, came into the match having been nominated for the Player of the Season award at Villa. In 28 Premier League appearances, Grealish had a hand in 18 goals for Dean Smith’s side – scoring six and creating 12 more. On Wednesday night, he was the one player that impressed for England.
Manchester City remain interested in Grealish. The Daily Mail claims Pep Guardiola is keen for his club to smash the British transfer record and splash £100million on the Villa skipper. He could leave Aston Villa this summer, and join a City side that are also keen on signing Harry Kane.
Speaking after watching England pick up a narrow win in their first warm-up game, Keane raved about Grealish on ITV’s coverage. The Manchester United icon compared him to Ronaldo, in the sense that he has no fear and that you need those game-changing players.
“He is the star man, he makes things happen. He has courage and always wants the ball in tight areas. Like Cristiano Ronaldo at Portugal, you need players like that in your team. It is brave,” Keane told ITV Sport.
Manchester City have simply got to sign Grealish, after Keane comments
City have the best squad in the Premier League. But they will not want to stand still, they need to continue progressing and keep things fresh. They need to bring in two or three big summer signings and Grealish would be an excellent, excellent start. He improves a near-perfect City side.
It is difficult for Pep to find players that improve the current Premier League champions but Grealish does that. For Keane to liken him to Ronaldo shows just that. If they can bring in Grealish and Kane, then surely, City win the Premier League title – at least next season.
