Roy Keane has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 8/11; 19:09) following their draw with Manchester City on Sunday that Liverpool’s mindset and how they have dealt with setbacks makes them favourites to retain their Premier League crown this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s men took a point from their clash at the Etihad Stadium. Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot. And City required a moment of magic from Gabriel Jesus to get back on level terms.

It was a particularly impressive result for the Reds given some of the problems they have had to deal with already this term. They had already lost Virgil van Dijk to a long-term injury earlier this season.
Fabinho then joined the Dutchman on the sidelines shortly after. And they were dealt a further blow during the draw this weekend with Trent Alexander-Arnold coming off injured.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that there is some positive news on the right-back on its way in the coming days. But in the meantime, Keane suggested that the way that the champions have dealt with the hurdles put in front of them so far has really impressed him.
“What I enjoyed most about Liverpool today, I always look at teams who’ve won a league, their mindsets, their body language, their hunger, desire. And I see that so much in this Liverpool team. I still think it’s going to take a lot to stop this team,” he told Sky Sports.
“I know they’re not at their very best and they’re grinding out results shall we say. But I still think Jurgen Klopp in his interview there, he’s delighted. He’s thinking: ‘we still turned up here today with our one or two problems with the injuries’. Trent getting injured there, Milner comes in, experienced player, at right-back, does a very good, solid job.
“And that’s what winning Championships are about: having setbacks, having disappointments, but showing a real strong mentality. And I saw that with Liverpool today.”
It is remarkable to see Liverpool right in contention having lost so many key men and having perhaps not produced their best football at times.
It is certainly an ominous sign for those hoping to challenge for their crown this term.
