Manchester City star John Stones enjoyed a bittersweet night in an England shirt during last night’s 2-1 win over Poland – with ITV pundit Roy Keane particularly critical of his defending.
The 26-year-old was slack in possession with England leading 1-0, allowing Jakub Moder to give Paulo Sousa’s team an unlikely equaliser.
Despite his lacklustre moment of madness, Stones did come up trumps at the other end. He nodded a late corner into the path of Harry Maguire who lashed home an unstoppable effort.

The result gave the Three Lions a third straight win and put the team on course for World Cup 2022 qualification.
Stones came under-fire afterwards, however, with Keane suggesting in the studio that Stones, like many defenders, gets bored during games.
He told ITV: “Some defenders sometimes look like they get bored and John Stones has certainly got that in his make up. They did enough though and they got the job done.
Quality
The Citizens central defender has enjoyed a superb campaign under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.
He was linked with a move away from the club during the summer but he’s proved his doubters wrong during 2020/21.
In 26 games this season he has scored five goals and struck up a strong understanding with fellow defender Ruben Dias.
The £100,000-a-week player will learn from this experience with England and hopefully start to rid his games of errors.

Despite last night’s rare off moment, it’s easy to see why Gareth Southgate has given Stones a recall to the team.
He’s been exceptional at club level and on current form, he looks a shoo-in to make the squad for the European Championships.
Keane is known for his sharp tongue and Stones will hope to prove him wrong for his ‘bored’ comments during future outings.
