Former Manchester United midfielder and now pundit, Roy Keane, lauded Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey following the Gunners’ 1-0 win at Old Trafford yesterday.

Partey was a dominant presence in the middle of the park for Arsenal as they cruised to a 1-0 win at Old Trafford against a United side looking increasingly desperate on home turf.

The Ghanaian, signed from Atletico Madrid on deadline day, has quickly established himself at The Emirates and, alongside Mohamed Elneny, looked assured in the middle of the park.

And Keane, who was analysing the game for Sky Sports with Jamie Redknapp, admitted he wished that Partey was in the United midfield.

“He was outstanding. He’s obviously no mug having played in big games. When you watch a player live that’s when you can judge a player and the more I look at him the more I wish he was in the United midfield. He’s big, strong and aggressive – and he can pass it forward. He can deal with the ball.

“I had my battles with Vieira and I think this kid has got a chance of matching what Patrick used to do.”

The resemblance to those displays from Vieira was on full display. Partey was dominant both in defensive areas and in the final third for Arsenal and looks to be the real deal.

Considering the long and drawn out process that saw Partey eventually arrive in north London, expectations were high when the midfielder eventually put pen to paper on deadline day.

But he isn’t disappointing and looks to be on course to be one of the star’s of the show for Arsenal in the coming weeks and months.

He has everything in his game to be so dominant. As Jamie Redknapp pointed out, he is something of a throwback and Gunners fans will be loving what he brings to the table.
