Roy Hodgson may not have been popular as an England manager, but in club management, he deserves a ton of respect. He turned around the fortunes of Crystal Palace after arriving in September to take over from the flailing Frank De Boer project.
Of course, he also has an extensive internationally spread career which has seen him work in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy.
Now he is set to embark on his first full season at Palace and it appears his worldly connections and life experience may have helped Crystal Palace pull off the transfer coup of the summer.

German international Max Meyer is set to join the club on a free transfer. Considered one of the brightest prospects in European football a few years ago, his time at former club Schalke 04 ended acrimoniously this summer.
Numerous clubs have tried to snap him up on a free transfer since, but Roy Hodgson has convinced him to be the perfect replacement for Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Selhurst Park.
Surely the fact the Palace manager speaks fluent German must have had something to do with the move. With all respect to Palace, Meyer is a player once dubbed the ‘German Messi’ and has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in world football.
But Palace and Hodgson have convinced him to head to London and being able to easily communicate with the manager must have been a massive selling point.
Hopefully, it can lead to Meyer rediscovering his best form with the Eagles.
