Roy Hodgson's comments on Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke will excite Crystal Palace fans

In the aftermath of Crystal Palace’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, Roy Hodgson directly addressed the rumours surrounding Dominic Solanke’s loan move.

The Crystal Palace manager confirmed the Eagles were interested in the forward and praised his attacking strength, comments that will surely excite the Palace support.

Reports in the Guardian earlier this week linked Solanke with a loan move to Selhurst Park, claiming the Liverpool striker preferred Palace to Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

When speaking to football.london after the match, Hodgson confirmed the reports and said Solanke would offer much to his side.

“First of all, we’ve got to try and make certain we do get him here on loan. If Steve has mentioned that, then it’s not a secret he’s a target of ours and he is someone we would like to have,” Hodgson said. “He would provide the attacking threat that a good centre forward should provide… He’s someone with the profile we’re looking for, and the ability we are looking for, which once again today I thought we were sadly lacking.”

Palace were held scoreless at Selhurst Park and squandered an excellent chance to equalise through Connor Wickham — a fact that Hodgson is acutely aware of.

Hodgson’s eagerness to bring in a quality striking threat is fantastic news for the Eagles, who have toiled to finish off chances this season.

With the anticipated addition of Dominic Solanke on loan, Crystal Palace will transform into a far more dangerous side capable of turning quality chances into more regular goals.
