Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been praised by Roy Hodgson, who thinks the 27-year-old is doing “the ideal job” for Jose Mourinho and Spurs.

Kane’s talents as a centre-forward are well known, but this season he’s been operating deeper to get on the ball and create opportunities.

Jose Mourinho’s decision to utilise Kane in this manner has worked wonders, the 27-year-old registering 14 goals and 13 assists from just 18 appearances this term.

In addition, the England international has chipped in defensively, his goalline clearance against Burnley a standout moment but by no means the only contribution.

With Spurs taking on Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, Eagles boss Hodgson was asked by Football London about the prospect of facing Kane and his varied skill set.

“Well, we’ve studied very carefully the games they’ve been playing this season, in particular the recent ones,” he replied.

“We’ve noticed, like everybody else, that Harry doesn’t just stay as an out and out pivotal centre-forward, he drops deep, dragging the centre-backs out and from there he uses his awareness and his passing to make goals as well as scoring them.

“It hasn’t stopped him from getting forward again and getting in the box, so he’s really doing the ideal job for his manager and his team.”

TBR View:

It’s frightening to see just how Kane is developing under Mourinho – not only is his goal tally as good as ever, but his assist tally is also shooting right up, while his overall play is simply unbelievable.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson recently claimed that Kane is on the way to becoming the best player in the world given he’s now doing what Kevin De Bruyne does, on top of his usual No. 9 duties.

Factor in his defensive contributions and we’re talking arguably the most complete footballer in recent times – hopefully this season he can add Premier League champion to his CV.
