Rotherham boss Paul Warne believes Newcastle could recall Dan Barlaser

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne thinks that Dan Barlaser could head back to Newcastle United this January, The Daily Record reports.

Barlaser is on a season-long loan at League One promotion hopefuls Rotherham. But Newcastle might not be happy with his playing time. The 22-year-old has played 20 games but he has drifted in and out of the side.

Rotherham have three players on loan and all of them have been bit-part players. Rangers winger Jake Hastie and Norwich City’s Carlton Morris are the other two. Warne thinks the lack of game time could lead to some recalls in January.

Talking about his three loanees, Warne conceded (via The Daily Record): “They’ve all added something at different times to our team. It wouldn’t surprise me that if Dan, Jake or Carlton don’t play enough games in December their parent clubs would want to move them. I understand that.”

TBR’s view

Barlaser needs to be playing every week at this stage of his career. The Turkish youngster is not going to convince Newcastle that he is good enough if he is only a squad player for a League One club.

Last season, he shone at Accrington Stanley. Another loan move could work for him if he is recalled but Newcastle might let him go permanently.
