Rondon will keep Wolves and West Ham waiting until Benitez’s future is decided

Salomon Rondon will hold off on deciding his next move this summer until Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United future is resolved, according to the Daily Star.

They report that Rondon’s first choice is to join the Magpies on a permanent basis this summer after an impressive 2018/19 loan spell, but other clubs are sniffing around.

Wolves, West Ham and Everton are all named in the report but they will be kept waiting by the £60,000 a week (Spotrac) striker and if Benitez extends his stay at the club, he will snub them all.

Rondon’s £16.5m release clause has attracted interest after West Brom failed to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

That represents great value for an established Premier League force, and clubs like the Hammers, the Toffees and the Old Gold all recognise that – and that’s it’s worth sucking up the downside of Rondon’s lack of resale value.

But Newcastle are more obstinate than that and Rondon’s age is a concern for the club – but that does not appear to have put Rondon off waiting to see how the situation at the club plays out.

That means that a return to the north east looks very much like his first choice, despite the sides further up the league being in for him and perhaps more ambitious as well.
