Former Ballon d’Or winner believes Tottenham can overcome Manchester City tonight and go on to win the Champions League, according to the Daily Star.
Spurs hold a one goal lead going into tonight’s crunch clash at the Etihad Stadium and the Brazilian legend has reportedly said that they can finish the job before going all the way.
He said: “Why can’t Spurs win the Champions League? Because they don’t have history in the competition – or they have never won it before?
“Every team who has won the Champions Leauge had to win it for the first time once. Their result against Manchester City, showed that they can compete with the best. They will believe they can go all the way – if they play as they can then maybe they will.”
Overcoming City would be something of a watershed moment for Spurs and would give them the confidence to believe they can go all the way.
A date with Ajax awaits in the semi-final, and as impressive as the Dutch side have been, that would represent an enormous opportunity to reach the Champions League final for the very first time.
Obviously, City will be bang up for it as they look to keep their quadruple hopes alive but there is no reason for Spurs to think – even without Harry Kane – that they can’t get the job done.
