Ronald de Boer has told TalkSPORT that he believes Rangers hothead Alfredo Morelos has enough quality to shine in the Premier League amid reported interest from Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and other sides.
Goal claimed earlier this month that four Premier League sides want to sign the 23-year-old, in the form of Newcastle, Palace, Aston Villa and Leicester City. Inter Milan are also said to be keen, as are Sevilla and Valencia. He is rated at £13million.
Now a fully-fledged Colombia international, Morelos has been in stunning form for Rangers this season – netting 29 goals and laying on 10 assists in 46 league and cup appearances. But since the turn of the year, he has struggled.
Indeed, the former HJK Helsinki striker has failed to score a league goal. Asked if Morelos would be a hit in the Premier League amid reported interest in the Colombian, ex-Rangers star de Boer is confident he has enough quality for England’s top tier.
“I think he would do well in the Premier League because he’s a fighter,” De Boer said. “He is a bit crazy – there are not so many strikers who get so many red cards, but he’s a great player.
“He loves his goals, he’s a predator. I think he’s been a great signing for Rangers. He can do well and I can understand [why] the clubs of the Premier League are interested in him.”
TBR’s view – Morelos would be a top signing for most PL sides
At a club like Leicester, Morelos would still get plenty of game time as back-up to Jamie Vardy. But at the likes of Villa, Newcastle and Palace, Morelos would certainly start – and impress.
Yes, Morelos has been scoring goals for fun against Scottish Premiership sides that are well below the quality of the Premier League. But the Colombian has also shined against the likes of Porto and Feyenoord in the Europa League.
For a bargain price, Morelos is more than capable of netting 15 goals a season in England’s top tier.
