Romelu Lukaku: The start of something special

Romelu Lukaku: The start of something special

With preseason truly under way for all clubs across the Premier League, one player which is really showing him self to be a great contender for first team striker is young Belgium international Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea FC.

Just 19 years of age he is showing much potential and talent to really progress and become a world-class striker. With much controversy over the first team striker and seeing fans divided at Chelsea on Fernando Torres it is a great chance for Lukaku to try and get to the top and earn a spot in the first team.

From the start when Lukaku signed from R.S.C Anderlecht to Chelsea in the summer of 2011 he had brought with him exceptional reviews which gave a promise to keep an eye on him and watch him grow into what we would call the “Complete Striker.” He has good pace, strength, and ability to finish chances off consistently. This season on loan at West Brom really gave football fans a chance to look at the young Belgian and he did not disappoint.

Lukaku scored 17 goals for the The Baggies in what proved to be a very successful season for him. Last season is seeing Lukaku feel the benefits while back at Chelsea as he is now playing a big part in the Blues preseason games and gaining the respect of the “Special One” Jose Mourinho who has told people not to compare Lukaku with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Mourinho has told the press just to “leave Lukaku to work hard. The kid is good.” It may be too early to really compare the two as Lukaku has only had one season to really show himself off to followers of the Premier League. Yet you can see why these comparisons have come about with the two having similar playing styles it has helped to grab the attention of football fans.

So what can we expect from him next season?

I can only picture great things from Lukaku in the future and with the squad that Chelsea have it can only benefit him more and see him score many more goals in the foreseeable future and grow in to a great young striker. Also I feel that he can top his 17 goals last season and even reach the great target of 20 goals as he is not slowing down with his development of a footballer yet growing at an even more rapid rate than ever before.

With all this in mind I along with many football fans should look forward to seeing Lukaku next season and if he can really make his mark on football with a great season at Chelsea FC and hopefully see the progression of him and turn out to be the great footballer we are hoping for from the praise which travelled with him over from Belgium.
