Romelu Lukaku pays tribute to Everton in New Year’s Even Instagram post

Everton have been thanked on social networking site Instagram by former star Romelu Lukaku, with the striker bringing the curtain down on a highly successful last 10 years.

The Belgian is ending 2019 on a high after 14 goals in 22 appearances for Inter Milan so far this season.

After a tricky 2018/19 season at Manchester United, he will be delighted to have rediscovered his mojo over in Serie  A following his £74 million summer transfer (BBC Sport).

It would appear Lukaku is back on track in his career now, and the 26-year-old was in a reflective mood on New Year’s Eve.

It’s been a whirlwind past 10 years in which he burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old with Anderlecht, came to English football in 2011, and made big money moves to United and Inter.

From 2013-17, Lukaku was on the books at Everton and clearly he valued his time at Goodison Park very much.

As part of a two-post message, he said of the Toffees: “Looking back I owe that club so much, they gave me a chance and belief at 20 years old and I truly enjoyed my time there. The fans are amazing and it was a pleasure to play for such great club.”

In his four seasons at Goodison he scored 87 goals in 166 games, proving himself as one of the Premier League’s best strikers.

Everton simply couldn’t turn down the £75 million + add-ons (BBC Sport) that was offered by the Red Devils in 2017, and fans most are at peace with the deal that was done.
