On-fire Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has paid Tottenham Hotspur defender and Belgium teammate Jan Vertonghen a huge compliment on Instagram, during a Q&A session on his official account.
Lukaku, 25, joined Inter from Manchester United in the summer after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose to offload the ex-Everton and Chelsea star, instead of keeping him on side.
Since his move to Inter, Lukaku has netted an excellent 23 goals in 34 league and cup appearances – as well as laying on five assists. He has certainly returned to his best, while United were forced into signing Odion Ighalo in the January window.
Lukaku was asked who the best defender he has played against in his career was on his Instagram account, and chose Tottenham defender Vertonghen as the toughest he has come up against – in the Premier League, and in Belgium training.
TBR’s view – Should Mourinho keep Vertonghen? Or let him go?
The signs are becoming more and more ominous on Vertonghen’s Tottenham stay. He has now entered the final four months of his current contract, and although there have been reports of a new deal – nothing has been announced?
Should Spurs keep him? He turns 33 in April, but the Belgian veteran is one of the leaders of the Tottenham side – and one of the stalwarts that starred under Mauricio Pochettino. He is a helping hand for the younger players.
His game on the pitch may have detriorated somewhat, but he still offers plenty of quality. That drop in performance, though, is surely made up in his potential influence off the pitch – Spurs need to offer him a deal.
