Romano shares what former players have said about Leeds boss Marsch

Fabrizio Romano has told Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel that he has heard a lot of good things about new Leeds United boss Jesse Marsh from the players who have previously worked under him.

Marsch is gearing up for his first game in charge at Elland Road following the sacking of Marcelo Bielsa at the weekend. Of course, it looks to be a huge gamble from the Premier League strugglers.

Admittedly, Bielsa was not having the best time. However, he has established himself as a club icon. Leeds have let arguably the most popular figure associated with them currently leave. And they have appointed a manager with no Premier League experience. He was also sacked from his most recent job.

Marsch is an exciting coach with a good track record. And the early signs are that he is going to be a good appointment in the long-term – whatever happens in the next 12 games.

However, a lot more will only become clear once Leeds take to the field under Marsch.

‘I have very good feedback’

Romano has admitted that he has some doubts. However, he suggested that the Leeds squad are likely to enjoy working with the 48-year-old based on the relationship he had with players at his old clubs.

“He needs some time, and this is why I’m worried for Leeds,” he told Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel. “It is not easy to give time to an American manager coming for the first time in the Premier League. It’s about how much time he will have to show his ideas and his skills as a manager.

“Players-wise, I have very good feedback on Jesse Marsch. They love his approach, they love his ideas, they love his methods. It’s more about the club, they really need to back him, give him time to show his ideas.”

Marsch getting Leeds squad buying into his ideas could be one crucial battle

What was abundantly clear throughout Bielsa’s tenure was how much the players loved working with him. Virtually every player on social media sent an emotional reaction to the news that he had been sacked.

Marsch winning them over therefore, may not necessarily be a simple task. Bielsa transformed the careers of so many. And they may have their own concerns about whether Marsch can keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Obviously, some outsiders are tempted to write off the squad now that Bielsa has gone. But Marsch would surely suggest that they could do extremely well if they buy into what he wants based on how they fared last season.

It remains to be seen how that relationship builds. But Romano’s suggestion that he is a popular figure amongst players is incredibly encouraging.
