The Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer saga continues to rumble on as Arsenal and Chelsea battle for the Shakhtar Donetsk star.

For a number of months, the Gunners were effectively unopposed in their pursuit of the Ukraine international.

Indeed, the only significant stumbling block came in the form of Shakhtar, who are playing hardball over Mudryk’s signature.

However, Chelsea have since joined the race and are trying to land the 21-year-old from under the noses of Arsenal.

Earlier on Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter with an update on the Mudryk – Arsenal – Chelsea state of play.

He reported that Shakhtar director Darijo Srna will be in London this week.

Srna will discuss Mudryk with Chelsea ‘in the next 24 hours’ and could be at the Manchester City game too.

Nonetheless, he stressed that Arsenal remain in direct talks and remain Mudryk’s transfer priority.

‘Still depends on Arsenal’

Later on in the day, Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel that Srna had arrived in the English capital.

“What’s going on now,” began Romano.” Shakhtar director Darijo Srna is in London.

“He is in London, he will have a direct meeting with Chelsea.

“Also important – he will be at the Chelsea v City game.

“And so this could be another opportunity to speak to Chelsea people.

“Chelsea are there – why? Because they wanted to wait some days before acting.

“But now they say that Arsenal have still no agreement with Shakhtar.

“This is why Chelsea decided to act and to have first conversations.”

Romano did, however, reiterate that Mudryk’s first choice remains Arsenal.

“There is an important point I already told you in the last videos,” continued Romano.

“Mudryk wants Arsenal as priority. So his priority is to go to Arsenal.

“But sometimes we know in football it’s important the timing, especially in January

“Arsenal in negotiations with Shakhtar, 50 million euros is the second bid plus add-ons.

“But at the moment it’s still not agreed with Shakhtar, and this is why they’re speaking to Chelsea.

“Chelsea told Shakhtar they are prepared to do something really important for Mudryk.

“It now depends on Shakhtar-Arsenal negotiations. The deal still depends on Arsenal now.

“The player at the moment is not the key point because it’s on Arsenal to reach an agreement with Shakhtar.

“Otherwise Chelsea will have a chance to attack and to try to bring the player immediately. Let’s see what happens.”

Mudryk deal is Arsenal’s to lose

From what Romano has said, this deal is very much Arsenal’s to lose.

They are in direct talks with Shakhtar, looking to sign a player who’s eager to join the Gunners.

Shakhtar, however, are playing hardball. They want to get as much as they can for Mudryk – and you can’t blame them for wanting to get the most out of their main asset.

Chelsea are now in the race and making moves, and while it’s alarming for Arsenal, they seem to still be the favourites.
