'Negotiations started two days ago': Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham's 'magnificent' player is close to sealing Serie A move
Respected journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has claimed tonight that Tanguy Ndombele is edging closer to a move to Italian side, Napoli.
Ndombele is one of a number of Tottenham players who Antonio Conte has ousted from the first-team squad and is expected to leave the club one way or another before August is out. The Frenchman has never quite got going in North London, despite the odd moment of brilliance and Jose Mourinho labelling him ‘magnificent‘ at times.
Taking to Twitter tonight, Romano has confirmed that talks are underway with the reps of Ndombele and Napoli over a move to Serie A. It’s claimed that the discussions are centred around the terms of the deal and how Ndombele’s big salary will be covered. It is widely known that the midfielder is one of Tottenham’s highest earners.
Ndombele’s situation with Spurs is complicated by the fact he has a few years left on his contract. Further, clubs keen know that Spurs don’t really want him around, so any notion the club might want some of the more than £50m back they paid for Ndombele is simply not going to happen.
Conte, meanwhile, will simply be hoping Fabio Paratici can get a deal done for the wantaway French midfielder.
TBR’s View: Ndombele In Serie A Could Work
Napoli is a big club with a rich history and there’s no doubt it would be a smart move for Ndombele to take on.
Serie A remains one of the Premier Leagues in Europe and all it takes is for Ndombele to have a good season and his career could be right back on track. Of course, for Napoli, the risk for them is getting Ndombele to deliver that season.
For Tottenham, this is now just a case of getting rid. They have to move Ndombele on, it’s as simple as that.
