Newcastle United are back in the hunt to complete a deal for Reims striker, Hugo Ekitike, with a deal even potentially set to happen this week.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano anyway, who has taken to Twitter just now to offer an encouraging update for the Newcastle fans. Ekitike is said to be one of the club’s top transfer targets this summer. And with Dan Ashworth now in place in his new role, the Mags are expected to press on with making new signings.

And according to Romano, one of those signings could be Ekitike. The transfer expert has claimed a deal is now back on track, with this week set to be hugely important for both parties.
Newcastle could pay up to £40m for the ‘very special’ Ekitike, who is seen as one of France’s brightest young attacking talents. Indeed, the striker came close to signing for the Mags in January, only for the deal to fall through before the end of the window.
Now, though, it seems Newcastle are ready to press on and land Ekitike. Eddie Howe is set to be backed by PIF, who are keen to build on Howe’s excellent first season in charge at the club.
TBR’s View: Ekitike To Newcastle Looks A Case Of When, Not If
This looks like finally getting done and Newcastle fans can look forward to one of the most exciting young players in Europe arriving at the club.
Having Ekitike join the likes of Callum Wilson and Chris Wood up top is a good thing for the club and gives Howe options heading into the new season. Certainly, it looks a case of when Newcastle will sign Ekitike now, not if.
For Howe and Newcastle, this window is big. And signing someone like Ekitike would be the perfect start.
