Romano says Crystal Palace in talks with Frank Lampard; wants 19-goal striker
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Crystal Palace are still in contact with Frank Lampard as a possible Roy Hodgson replacement. It’s also claimed that a new signing has been identified if he takes over.
Slavia Prague striker Abdallah Sima is the man linked with the club should Lampard get the nod to replace the current incumbent, with Hodgson’s deal up in the summer.
The former Chelsea boss was sacked by the Blues in January and has been waiting for his next opportunity since. Prior to managing at Stamford Bridge, he led Derby County to the Championship play-off final in his maiden season at Pride Park.
Lampard’s willingness to utilise youth during his time at Chelsea will be a big factor in Palace wanting to appoint him. His extensive book of contact within the game will also be a big bonus.
The Eagles currently occupy 13th place in the Premier League. If Hodgson is sacked, the remit will be to take Palace into the top half of the division and progress the club further.
Signing a player like Sima could certainly help. The 19-year-old has been bang in form for Slavia Prague. He has found the net 19 times and registered eight assists during 2020/21.
Recently West Ham and Arsenal have been linked with him and if Palace can persuade him to sign, it could represent a real coup.
TBR View: Lampard would be an ideal addition for Palace
The Eagles will need a change of tact if Hodgson does leave and Lampard would certainly freshen up the style of football and the team’s strategy on the pitch.
Adding Sima could be just the icing on the cake and under the new boss, he could thrive.
Appointing Lampard could see more where that came from too. At both Derby and Chelsea, he has used his repertoire of contacts to add plenty of useful additions.
Palace could benefit from a young, progressive manager and Lampard might just be the perfect appointment.
