Romano says club are trying to get rid of 'amazing' player 'as soon as possible', Everton are in talks

Everton are now in talks with French champions Paris Saint-Germain over bringing back former midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

That is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has added to the Daily Mail’s report about Goodison Park interest in the anchorman.

The Mail report that Gueye has just year left on his PSG contract and saw a potential loan move to Newcastle fall through in January.

Romano says that PSG are keen to get rid of the midfielder as soon as possible, with their opportunities to get a fee for him dwindling.

Everton in talks over Gueye return

Gueye was a hugely popular figure at Everton, offering energy and quality at the heart of their midfield before leaving for Paris.

That said, he is 32 now, and can Everton really be certain that his legs are still up to performing in the Premier League in the same way?

The Toffees have not cracked on with the summer recruitment in the way that many at the club may well have liked, with the season fast approaching.

It seems that there is still plenty to do before Gueye comes back to Goodison Park, but PSG are willing to do business, and the price should not be so high given the midfielder’s contract situation.

During his time at Goodison, Gueye was described as ‘amazing‘ by fellow central midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, in an interview with the club’s official website.

He said: “Gana is just amazing in what he does. Before you could see his main point was getting the ball back, but now he likes to drive forward with the ball and take people on.

“It is a pleasure for me to play alongside him.”
