That was not true': Fabrizio Romano says rumour he's heard about Liverpool is totally false
Fabrizio Romano has been giving the very latest on Enzo Fernandez just now and has claimed Chelsea are in direct contact with the midfielder.
Fernandez has been one of the big names to emerge from the World Cup and has been linked with a move to England in recent weeks. At first, it seemed like Liverpool were the most likely destination for Fernandez. However, in recent days it is Chelsea who have emerged as a leading contender.
Of course, Liverpool have been sidetracked somewhat by the signing of Cody Gakpo. The Dutch forward has penned terms with the Reds and will be available for selection from January.
However, when discussing Fernandez on his YouTube channel today, Fabrizio Romano has said that talk of a Liverpool bid in recent days is wide of the mark.
“Let me add, Liverpool are not negotiating with Benfica, not negotiating with the agents of Enzo Fernandez. We heard rumours of Liverpool and Man United triggering the clause. That was not true. They never made a bid close to the clause or triggered it. Liverpool appreciate the player, but never made a bid. The interest is there for sure, he’s a top talent, but it is Chelsea who are actively trying to find a way for Enzo,” Romano said on his YouTube.
TBR’s View: Liverpool look like they’ve moved on from Fernandez
The deal for Cody Gakpo shows how quickly Liverpool move if they really want to get a transfer done so it looks like, for now, Enzo Fernandez will be one they pass up on.
We all know the Reds are waiting for Jude Bellingham as well so if Chelsea are willing to pay over £100m for Fernandez, you can bet Liverpool will just sit back and watch it happen.
Liverpool will know who they want and when. And the signing of Gakpo should reassure Reds fans that all is in hand.
