Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Arsenal are expected to sell both Lucas Torreira and Hector Bellerin this summer, with replacements expected to arrive at The Emirates in the coming months.
Torreira continues to struggle for game time at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone, but the 25-year-old could be about to pick up a La Liga winners medal after Barcelona surrendered a two-goal lead on Tuesday night to draw 3-3 with Levante.
He has already stated his desire to leave Arsenal for personal reasons, despite only joining the Gunners in the summer of 2018 and clocking up 89 appearances in his first two seasons at The Emirates. Meanwhile, Bellerin is also said to depart.
One of the club’s leaders, Spain international Bellerin – who has played 238 times for Arsenal – is set to enter the last two years of his contract but some questionable form is likely to see him leave after 10 years at Arsenal. Romano expects both to leave.
TBR’s view – Arsenal do need to bring in replacement first
At least, for Bellerin. The Gunners have shown they do not need to replace Torreira given he has already left the club on loan, though they do need a central midfielder. Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Gladbach’s Denis Zakaria have been strongly linked.
But it is more important they sign a right-back to replace £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) Bellerin. Calum Chambers is currently playing on the right side of the defence – while Cedric Soares is more of a squad player. Achraf Hakimi has been linked.
