Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to suggest that Lille want £42 million for Jonathan David, whose agent has already held talks with Edu about a potential move to Arsenal.

David has been superb for much of the Ligue 1 campaign. He has scored 17 goals in 44 games in all competitions, with three of those strikes coming in the Champions League.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. Of course, the Gunners need to sign at least one new striker during the summer transfer window.

And reports have claimed that Edu has held talks with David’s representatives about a potential move to the Emirates.

Romano has now provided a further update on the Canadian’s future. He has suggested that a number of top sides want the forward in the coming months. And the journalist has added that his asking price is around £42 million (€50 million).

Current form of Jonathan David may be concern for Arsenal amid £42m reports

David is only 22, and he is someone capable of playing up front or as a second striker. He has also been described as a ‘phenomenon‘ in the past.

He looks to be a real talent with a very bright future. But he has not been prolific in the last few months. And that may be a concern with Arsenal needing more than one striker this summer.

Certainly, Mikel Arteta may want a better return from the striker they spend the biggest sum on this summer. And if they spend £42 million on David, it is hard to see them managing to part with even more to get someone else.

So, much may depend on how high Arsenal believe his ceiling could be.
