‘It will be done’: Fabrizio Romano has some Sunday morning transfer news for Tottenham fans

Journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has said that a deal for Tottenham full-back Sergio Reguilon to join Atletico Madrid is all but done.

Reguilon has been shunted down the pecking order at Tottenham with Antonio Conte telling the Spaniard he isn’t part of his plans going forward for this season. A number of other clubs including Nottingham Forest have expressed an interest in signing Reguilon, however it appears to be Atletico Madrid who have won the race.

Romano took to Twitter late last night to confirm that Reguilon has all but agreed to join Atletico, saying the deal will be done on an initial loan deal, with no buy option included for Atletico as things stand.

Reguilon’s move to Atletico will allow him to move back to La Liga where he enjoyed success at Sevilla before being signed by Tottenham in the first place. He was a regular with Spurs when Jose Mourinho was in charge but Conte’s switch to using wing-backs and a preference for Ryan Sessegnon and new signing Ivan Perisic, has pushed Reguilon out.

TBR’s View: Reguilon Gets His Move And It’s Needed

It was vitally important that Sergio Reguilon got this move as there was simply no point in him sitting around at Spurs with no game time.

In fairness to the Spaniard, a move to Atletico is quite the switch for him. They are a massive club who will be challenging for honours and there’s a real chance he makes a success of things back in Spain.

For Tottenham, it gets another player off the wage books for now and while there isn’t that buy clause inserted just yet, it only takes Reguilon to have a good season with Atletico for them to fancy buying him.
