Romano comments suggest Tottenham could be lining up bargain swoop for World Cup forward - TBR View
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko in recent weeks.
In November, 90Min claimed Spurs sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old in action against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
More recently, the same outlet said Tottenham are amongst the clubs to have been informed that Moukoko wants to leave Dortmund next year.
The North Londoners are reportedly looking to bolster their attacking ranks in 2023 amid a number of injuries up front.
And in Moukoko, Tottenham would be landing a player Erling Haaland previously deemed ‘amazing’ and the ‘biggest talent in the world right now’.
Better still, with his contract expiring in the summer, Spurs could get themselves an absolute bargain.
‘Ready to push’
However, it may not be that easy.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the youngster, which suggests he may still have a future at Dortmund.
The transfer insider took to Twitter to claim that BVB still have chances to extend Moukoko’s contract.
This is because he has a good relationship with the club hierarchy.
Nonetheless, “timing is crucial”, and Dortmund “have to act within December” with a good proposal.
And in case they can’t agree a deal, English and Spanish clubs will be “ready to push” in January.
This suggests Tottenham may be lining up a potential move, just waiting to swoop depending on how things pan out.
Moukoko has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in world football.
He made his senior debut at the earliest possible opportunity, coming on just after his 16th birthday.
Moukoko replaced Haaland against Hertha Berlin in November 2020.
And he has now cemented his spot as a regular in the Dortmund side.
Moukoko has six goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season, and made the Germany squad for the World Cup.
The next Eto’o?
If Tottenham manage to sign Moukoko, it would be a huge statement of intent.
For a player to make his Bundesliga debut as early as he did, clock up as many goal contributions as he has, and even make the Germany World Cup squad despite being uncapped, suggests he’s a superstar in the making.
Alongside Haaland’s comments, the Bundesliga website has compared Moukoko to Samuel Eto’o.
‘The similarities between Moukoko and the Eto’o we all grew to know at Barcelona and Inter Milan are striking,’ they wrote.
‘And we’re not just talking about their almost identical height, although the Dortmund youngster appears bulkier than the current president of the Cameroon FA did as a player.
‘They are both out-and-out centre-forwards who you can always bank on when the ball is played into them, scoring the majority of their goals from inside the penalty area.’
